Fun Regatta moves to Houghton Lake, Sunday March 12

The party continues at the Spikehorn Bar on Houghton Lake,  Sunday March 12!

Stan and Don Jones arrived just in time to welcome the host Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club, who were hot on their tails. Too much wind made snow drifts that ruined the ice at Otsego Lake near Gaylord

Houghton Lake: club members have sailed here many times — but now we launch at the DNR East Access launch. This is about five miles to the east as the crow flies across the lake from our familiar DNR West Access launch near the Comfort Inn.

Continue on M55 to the Village of Houghton Lake, then follow County Rd 100 around the north shore of the lake as you follow the signs to Roscommon County Airport.

If you get to the airport, the Spikehorn Bar is across the street, but you drove past the DNR East Access launch.

The launching there is of the highest standard, Stan Jones said.

The ice: just fine for fun or regatta sailing, if light air, that will be ideal for fast easy sailing. A two-mile course can be set, more than enough ice, Jones said.

Weather forecast for Sunday March 12 is ideal: mild high-single digit wind, mid-20s temperatures and low humidity.

Hospitality king Dick Wollam is firing up the grill to serve chili and brats for traditional Fun Regatta warm food at the launch ramp!

    Wishing you all well.
If the wind dies it’s going to turn into a food & beverage gathering with a possible Swap Meet opportunity.
