The following report was received from Bob Gray in TC:
“On a whim I drove to Skegemog Lake which had similar weather to Houghton Lake yesterday. Much to my surprise it was very sailable. There was a dusting of snow on the ice then about an inch, inch and a half of decent crunchy ice with about 1/2″ of water, not slush , between it and the base ice. There was a snowmobile racing around out on the ice with no trouble. I feel pretty confident that Houghton Lake will be the same. If at all possible I’ll run over there tomorrow morning and check it out. That said the eastern half of Skegemog Lake is very sailable and I’d give the ice from what I could see without sailing it a 6-7.”
If Bob makes any additional report I will try to post it as well.
